Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year unless manually cleared during maintenance.

Email received and sent from the website

We gather both general information (date sent, subject, email status) and technical information (all the headers, including TO, CC, BCC) for all sent emails. earthmeds.co.za‘s servers gather Email content that may contain personal information, as it stores all sent email content to our site’s database. We don’t save Email attachments for disk space-saving purposes.

Our website has software code capabilities to track which emails were opened by the recipients and which links were clicked in the sent emails. No additional information of the recipient is collected in this process.

Email logs are kept for Administrative purposes and Emails older than 1 (one) year are permanently deleted from our database.

Who we share your data with

We do not share or sell ANY of any user’s data and all user information collected is used for the sole purpose of earthmeds.co.za‘s website functionality and services. In the case of a request for a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email and can be seen by the website’s administrators (if needed). All data is kept securely in our database.

How long do we retain your data?

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profiles. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Email correspondence is kept for 1 (one year) in our database for administrative purposes. Email data older than a year is automatically deleted from our servers.

Your rights over your data under the South African PoPI Act

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Under the PoPI Act, users/consumers have the right to:

  • Request that a business that collects a consumer’s data disclose the categories and specific pieces of personal data that a business has collected about consumers.
  • Request that a business deletes any personal data about the consumer that a business has collected.
  • Request that a business that sells a consumer’s data, not sell the consumer’s data.

Analytics

Google Analytics is a web analytics service offered by Google that tracks and reports website traffic. Google uses the data collected to track and monitor the use of our Service. This data is shared with other Google services. Google may use the collected data to contextualise and personalise the ads of its advertising network.

You can opt-out of having made your activity on the Service available to Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. The add-on prevents Google Analytics JavaScript (ga.js, analytics.js, and dc.js) from sharing information with Google Analytics about visits activity.

Payment processors

We provide paid products and/or services on our website. In that case, we use third-party services for payment processing (e.g. payment processors).

We will not store or collect your payment card details. That information is provided directly to our third-party payment processors whose use of your personal information is governed by their Privacy Policies. These payment processors adhere to the standards set by PCI-DSS as managed by the PCI Security Standards Council.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service and automatically discarded if found safe. We do NOT under any circumstances send or sell your data to 3rd parties.
